UK casino bonuses changed for good in 2026. A new 10x wagering cap means offers are smaller but far fairer — and the headline number matters less than ever. We compare the best welcome bonus deals, free spins and no-wagering offers across our tested, UK Gambling Commission–licensed casinos, and explain the small print so you can spot real value.

From 19 January 2026, the UK Gambling Commission reshaped how every licensed casino can offer bonuses. Here's what it means for you.
No UK casino can require you to wager a bonus more than 10 times before withdrawing — down from the old industry standard of 30x–50x. A £30 bonus now means at most £300 of play-through, not £900–£1,500.
Bonuses can no longer bundle different gambling types. "Bet on football, get casino spins" deals are gone — a casino offer now applies to casino play only, so terms are clearer.
If you meet a bonus's conditions faster than expected, the operator can't shrink or change it. You get exactly what was promised when you opted in.
Offers must show clear monetary terms, including wagering calculators, so you can see what you'll need to stake before you claim — no buried small print.
The 10x cap is real, but a loophole remains. Games contribute different amounts toward wagering — slots usually count 100%, while table games like roulette or blackjack may count just 10%. On a low-weighted game, a 10x bonus can effectively become far higher. Always check the game-contribution table before you play to clear a bonus.
One side-effect: with lower wagering and higher operator costs, many casinos have trimmed headline bonus sizes and tightened maximum-win caps. The upshot for players is a "quality over quantity" era — a small bonus you can actually cash out beats a giant one you never could.

Six bonuses you'll see most often — and what to look for in each under the 2026 rules.
The casino matches a percentage of your first deposit in bonus funds — e.g. "100% up to £50". Check the wagering (now max 10x) and which games count toward clearing it.
A small bonus or set of free spins just for signing up, no deposit needed. Rare and usually modest, with wagering and a low max-win cap — but genuinely free to try.
Set spins on a specific slot, often tied to a deposit. Winnings may be paid as bonus funds (with up to 10x wagering) or, best of all, as cash with no wagering.
The best value of all: any winnings are paid as real, withdrawable cash with no play-through. Ladbrokes offers 500 wager-free welcome spins and Coral 100.
A percentage of your net losses returned over a period — say 10% back weekly. Often lower-wagering or cash, cashback is a useful safety net for regular players.
Ongoing offers for existing players: reload bonuses, free spins, points schemes and VIP tiers. Under the new rules, high-value VIP perks must be offered responsibly.

A wagering requirement (or "play-through") is how many times you must stake bonus funds before you can withdraw any winnings from them. It's the single most important term on any offer — and the one most players miss. The good news: since 19 January 2026, UK casinos can't set it above 10x.
You claim a £30 bonus with 10x wagering. That's £30 × 10 = £300 you must stake before withdrawing. At £1 per spin on a slot, that's 300 spins. Under the old 40x rules it would have been £1,200 — which is exactly why the cap matters. Lower-volatility slots help you clear it without burning through funds too fast.
Three other terms decide whether a bonus is really worth it: game contribution (slots usually count 100%, table games far less), the maximum bet allowed while wagering (often £5), and the expiry window (bonus funds and spins frequently expire within 72 hours). A wager-free offer sidesteps all of this — winnings are simply paid as cash.
Use our wagering calculator to see the true cost of any offer in seconds, and read our full wagering requirements guide.
In the post-2026 market, the smart move is to ignore the headline and read the terms. Here's our quick checklist for judging any UK casino bonus:
Any UKGC-licensed casino advertising wagering above 10x is in breach of its licence. Stick to licensed sites — every casino we feature holds a valid UK Gambling Commission licence, which you can verify on the public register.
Enter two offers — a welcome bonus, deposit match or any promotion — and we'll show which one gives you more genuine value once wagering is factored in.
Offer A
Offer B
A £40 wager-free bonus is worth more in real terms than £50 carrying 10x wagering — £500 must be staked to unlock it.
The comparison weighs each bonus against the total you must stake to unlock it. Because average slot RTP is around 96%, every £100 wagered costs roughly £4 in expected losses — so heavy wagering quietly eats the headline amount. It's why a modest wager-free deal frequently beats a much bigger bonus with strings attached.
Bonus terms can read like a foreign language. Here are the ones that actually affect what you can win and withdraw:
A quick comparison shows why the headline number rarely tells the full story. Imagine two offers: a £200 bonus at 10x wagering, and 100 wager-free spins worth 20p each.
| Offer | Play-through | To withdraw winnings |
|---|---|---|
| £200 bonus, 10x | £2,000 of wagering | Complete wagering first, then withdraw. |
| 100 wager-free spins | None | Any winnings are cash you can withdraw instantly. |
The bigger headline needs £2,000 of play to unlock; the wager-free spins pay out immediately. That's why we rank offers on their real value, not their size — and why our wagering calculator is the fastest way to compare any two deals.
For pure value, we rate wager-free offers highest — Ladbrokes gives a market-leading 500 welcome free spins and Coral 100, both with no wagering, so winnings are paid as withdrawable cash. If you want a deposit match, Spinyoo's low 10x offer that also works with PayPal is a strong pick. The best bonus for you depends on whether you prefer spins or bonus funds.
Since 19 January 2026, UK Gambling Commission rules cap wagering at 10x the bonus amount on all offers, including free spin winnings. The old 30x–50x requirements are no longer permitted. Any licensed casino advertising higher wagering is in breach of its licence.
With the 10x wagering cap and higher operator costs, large headline bonuses became harder to sustain, so many casinos reduced bonus sizes and tightened maximum-win caps. The trade-off is that the bonuses that remain are far easier to actually clear and withdraw — fairer, if smaller.
A wager-free bonus has no play-through requirement: any winnings are credited as real cash you can withdraw immediately, with no need to stake them first. It's the best-value type of offer, which is why we rank wager-free spins at the top.
It depends on the offer. Some free spins are wager-free, paying winnings as cash. Others credit winnings as bonus funds subject to wagering — now capped at a maximum of 10x. Always check whether spin winnings are cash or bonus funds before claiming.
A no-deposit bonus is a small reward — bonus funds or free spins — given just for registering, with no deposit required. They're rare and usually modest, with wagering and a low maximum-win cap, but they let you try a casino at no cost. See our free spins and no-deposit page for current options.
A sticky bonus is bonus money you can't withdraw itself — only the winnings you make from it, once wagering is met. A non-sticky bonus is added to your cash balance and is more flexible. Always check which type an offer is before claiming.
Only once you've met the wagering requirement (now a maximum of 10x in the UK). Winnings from a wager-free offer are the exception — they're paid as cash you can withdraw straight away, with no play-through.
